Seve Ballesteros Victory & Other Tenerife Golf History Events

History of Golf in Tenerife

During the course of our history, the Real Club de Golf de Tenerife has hosted various competitions: the Amateur Spanish Championships in 1942 and 1947, the International Spanish Open in 1964 and the Spanish Professional Double Championship in 1984. The club has been frequented by many renowned players such as Severiano Ballesteros, Manuel Piñero, J.M. Cañizares, Antonio Garrido or Miguel Ángel Jiménez, all of them winners of the Casino Taoro Open held at the Real Club de Tenerife on 24 different occasions.

In 1976, a young Severiano Ballesteros won the Tenerife Open held at the Real Club de Golf de Tenerife. That same year, our great Seve, with Manuel Piñero, won the World Golf Championship, the Netherlands Open and the prestigious Lancome Trophy, but most importantly, he came second in the British Open, appearing throughout the world as the great champion he was.

The Real Club de Golf de Tenerife has also supplied a pool of great golf players, such as Amateur Spanish Champions in all categories (fry, children, youth and absolute) both male and female. Especially from among these we must mention our professional Francisco "Tito" Abreu, winner of countless championships throughout the Canary Islands and Spain and winner, in 1973, of the German Open on the European Tour.

Throughout its history, our Club has also welcomed illustrious personalities, of whom, special mention can be made to their Majesties King Juan Carlos I and Queen Sofía.
