Bodegas Monje is definitely the most prepared winery on the island of Tenerife to receive visitors, the closest to the concept of wine tourism.
The first thing to highlight about this famous Tenerife winery is its exceptional location in the town of El Sauzal, a real natural balcony over Mount Teide, the Atlantic Ocean and the northern coast of the island of Tenerife, in a land surrounded by vineyards, in an area where wine tradition deepens its roots in the mist of time.
The winery, run today by Mr. Felipe Monje, continues a long family saga of men and women dedicated to wine. With a production today ranging between 100,000 and 150.000kg of grape, depending on each vintage; it is one of the main centers of wine production of the island.
In addition to the old cellar with old and sober wooden barrels, the visit leads to the curious visitor to the new cellar where stainless steel meets with new French and American oak barrels.
Along with the new winery, there are enabled some spaces to be rented by groups of friends for parties and private gourmet meetings, where the most frequent visitors have private spaces to store their bottles of wine.
In this sense, it is also worth mentioning the wine & sex meetings organized by the firm.
But, finally, if there is anything really outstanding in all this exceptional set, this is the great restaurant with exceptional views of the surrounding vineyards, where you can enjoy good traditional Canarian dishes cooked by the local chef Moises Rodriguez. A restaurant which is open every day except on Mondays and during the month of August.
